Newly arrived: The graphic novel "The Story of Francine R."

09 March 2021

The graphic novel "The Story of Francine R." by Boris Golzio has been published in German translation by avant-Verlag. Francine R. was a member of the Résistance during the German occupation of France. In April 1944, she was deported to Ravensbrück concentration camp. From there she was sent to the subcamp Salzgitter-Watenstedt, where she had to do forced labour for the armaments industry. Decades after her liberation and return to France, she told Boris Golzio the story of her deportation. Golzio translated this narrative into drawings that vividly depict Francine's story.

The translation into German was made possible by the support of the Fondation Tour du Monde and was produced in cooperation with avant-Verlag and the Ravensbrück Memorial. We thank the translators Barbara Hahn, Carsten Hinz and Katja Fröhlich. In addition to the German translation, a Polish translation is already available so that the memorial team can also use the graphic novel with international youth groups in the future.

Boris Golzio has also worked intensively on the topography of Ravensbrück Concentration Camp and developed a 3D model of the camp: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGVMkfB8oXM&t=300s.

On the 76th anniversary of the liberation, the memorial will publish a video conversation between Boris Golzio and Hannah Sprute, memorial staff member.
