The Ravensbrück Memorial mourns Heinz Wewer, who passed away on 1 September 2022
03. September 2022
Heinz Wewer passed away in Berlin on 1 September. As a young political student, he had made a significant contribution to getting the government of the Federal Republic of Germany to agree to compensation payments for the victims of medical experiments in the Ravensbrück concentration camp with a press campaign and the founding of a private aid committee. Last year, he gave this material to the Ravensbrück memorial archive as a legacy.
In the last few years he has published four extensive volumes in which he gave postal testimonies on the system of German concentration camps, including an extensive chapter on Ravensbrück Concentration Camp.
We fondly remember our meetings with him and think of his wife and relatives during these days.
