Prisoner numbers were used as an identifier not only on the miniatures, but also on this ring and others like it. Handkerchiefs, by contrast, usually had a prisoner’s name embroidered on them. There may have been practical reasons for this, since space was limited on these smaller objects and it was easier to carve a number. Prisoner number 7911 was assigned to Marie Plater-Broel, who was a victim of medical experiments in the Ravensbrück concentration camp.
