Ravensbrück Memorial Museum
Opening of the pupils’ exhibition: 'Memories of Colour'
17. June 2026 – 14:00 - 15:00 Uhr
Pupils in Years 8 and 9 have been exploring the theme of ‘remembrance’ in depth during their Protestant religious education lessons as part of their preparations for the interfaith commemoration marking the 81st anniversary of the liberation. The result is 21 striking acrylic works that artistically explore the life story of the Dutch-Israeli Holocaust survivor Emmie Arbel.
The basis and inspiration for the works was the graphic novel ‘Emmie Arbel. The Colour of Memory’, created by Barbara Yelin.
Through their artwork, the pupils aim to challenge the notion that remembrance can be left behind. The grief and pain from that time remain – they shape the lives of the survivors and their children. The past is a constant companion, even if we may not want to acknowledge it. That is why it is important to confront this past, to bring colour to our memories, and to move forward into the future with hope.
Contemporary witness Emmie Arbel will be present at the exhibition opening.
We would be delighted if you could join us.
