Ravensbrück Memorial Museum

The memorial is looking for new freelance guides!

21. November 2022

You
- are studying or have studied a subject relevant to a guiding activity (history, political or other social sciences, educational sciences, social work),
- have comprehensive knowledge of the history of National Socialist mass crimes,
- you are interested in playing an active role in shaping a living culture of remembrance and in enabling others to participate in it,
- have first experiences in historical-political education with youths and (young) adults,
- want to get involved in society.
Are you wondering how to become an independent guide?

There are basically two starting points:

1. you are still studying and, according to the examination regulations for your degree programme, you need a compulsory internship that you would like to do at the memorial. You apply for the internship at the memorial with the usual application documents and an excerpt of the study regulations with regard to the internship at paedagogikravensbrueckde. We will arrange an interview [preferably online under Corona conditions]. If we are convinced on both sides, your documents will be sent to the personnel department of the Brandenburg Memorials Foundation, where an internship contract will be signed for the period we have agreed upon. The internship is unfortunately unpaid, but also priceless. ???? Ideally, you can use it to familiarise yourself with the subject matter and to observe group supervision.

2. you no longer need an internship and may have already finished your studies. You apply to the memorial with the usual application documents for a job as a freelance guide. We will arrange an interview [preferably online under Corona conditions]. If we are both convinced that there are prospects, you can arrange to sit in on guided tours with our permanent and freelance guides at paedagogikravensbrueckde.
All those interested will receive a comprehensive PDF file with basic texts on the history of the Ravensbrück camp complex (reader) so that they can read up on the subject.

As a rule, we offer day seminars with "meta-guided tours" on two Saturdays, in which we open up the grounds and the exhibitions together and discuss the "forensic approach" (interpreting historical traces and buildings in the grounds) and finding "anchor points" where a multi-perspective narrative lends itself and visual axes facilitate a structured examination. You develop your leadership concept independently on the basis of your observation experiences and reading. When you feel confident, we will arrange a "trial tour". You will then be accompanied by the head of the education department during your first group leadership and will receive a collegial feedback.

Afterwards, the education department usually applies to the personnel department of the Brandenburg Memorials Foundation to conclude a contract. This requires conventional application documents and proof of your self-employment from your tax office, which you can apply for at the beginning of your training.

Once you have signed a contract, you will be asked by the group registration department for guided tours and group supervision.

The fee is based on the fee schedule for educational offers and is currently 84 € for two-hour, 115 € for three-hour and 135 € for four-hour offers. If an event is cancelled on the same day or the day before, the full fee rate will be paid.
