Animals are the most common motif among the 140 miniatures in the collection of the Ravensbrück Memorial (27 objects). Creatures such as dogs, small elephants (8), horses (2) and birds (2) were carved. Elephants were exotic animals that might have been associated with distant lands, travel, and thus freedom.
