Ravensbrück Memorial Museum
Book presentation: "You'll never get out of here... Luxembourg women in the Second World War between resistance, persecution and imprisonment"
02. December 2025 – 18:00 - 20:00 Uhr
Between January 1942 and September 1944, 9,000 women were deported from France to the German Reich as part of politically motivated repression measures. Around 7,000 women were sent to the Ravensbrück women's concentration camp. Most of them were resistance fighters. The exhibition "Resistance – Persecution – Deportation. Women from France in Ravensbrück Concentration Camp 1942–1945" highlights the lives and experiences of these women, their different social and national backgrounds. It shows how resistance and persecution were shaped by gender roles. The Ravensbrück Memorial Museum’s travelling exhibition is on display at the Berlin State Archives (Landesarchiv Berlin) until 20 February 2026.
As part of the accompanying programme for the exhibition at the National Archives, Dr. Kathrin Mess (École nationale pour adultes) will present her book on Luxembourg women during the Second World War, caught between resistance, persecution and imprisonment, at the Maison du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg in Berlin. The informative and elaborately designed book is the result of decades of intensive research by the author.
Kathrin Mess has also added and designed a separate section on Luxembourgish women resistance fighters for the National Resistance Museum in Esch-sur-Alzette in Luxembourg, which has been presenting the exhibition on women deported from France to Ravensbrück until September 2025. In conversation with the curator of the exhibition, Prof. Dr. Mechthild Gilzmer, she will focus in particular on the transnational aspects of her research work.
