Call for Papers: Forum for Young Researchers at the 15th European Summer School Ravensbrück

27. May 2022

The 15th European Summer University Ravensbrück is dedicated to the question to what extent memorial sites are places of "multidirectional memory", how this becomes evident in the practical work at the sites and how such an approach can be applied in educational work. These questions will be studied both theoretically as well as through numerous practical examples. A forum during which young scholars can present their research projects is an essential part of the annual Summer School.

On the afternoon of August 29, 2022, a research forum invites students and early career scholars to present their qualification theses (BA, MA and dissertations) on the topics of the 15th Ravensbrück Summer University.

The Summer University 2022 is mainly dedicated to the following topics:

- memorials as places of multidirectional memory

- international conflicts of remembrance

- tensions in the memorial-cultural field concerning Ravensbrück

- Memorials as "laboratories of the future“

The European Summer School Ravensbrück is an academic event held at the memorial site attended by an interdisciplinary group of participants consisting of students, scholars and practitioners in the field of history work and memory education, as well as by interested individuals.

We are welcoming young scholars working on a project related to the topics of this year's European Summer School. Those who would like to present their project are invited to apply with a short abstract and a CV by July 15, 2022. Selected papers will be presented at the research forum on August 29, 2022. The Summer University is free of charge. An expense allowance will be provided to those presenting a paper. The working languages are German and English. Simultaneous translation of the lectures will be provided.

Please send your application to Aliena Stürzer (sommer-uni@ravensbrueck.de). A project outline can be found here.

The 15th Ravensbrück Summer University is organized by the Ravensbrück Memorial/Stiftung Brandenburgische Gedenkstätten in cooperation with the Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History, the Leibniz Research Alliance Network "Value of the Past" and the Center for Research on Antisemitism at the TU Berlin.
